STATEMENT
My work investigates the interactions between materials, objects and bodies and how they are governed by forces understood but often not consciously considered. I begin with an observation of this kind of cause and effect, action and reaction. In my investigations, I question what these occurrences reveal about material, movement and our understanding, experience and consideration of inherent existing forces.
I set up conditions in which materials can shift, sag, collapse, and resist over time, relinquishing some control and accepting the often unpredictable consequences. These material changes become a way to think about bodies, not as a standard form, but as something that continuously negotiates change. I am interested in these shifts in bodily capacity, particularly in the space between what we expect our bodies to do and what they are actually able to do.
Time is the condition through which the work comes into being, emerging from the interaction between action and material. I create situations that suggest something has happened, is happening, or might happen. Traces of transformation become a way of marking duration and consequence. Through these shifting states, I invite viewers to bring their own bodily experiences and associations to encounters.
